For the past twenty-four years, the University of Washington's Department of Mechanical Engineering has offered students an exciting opportunity: the Formula SAE program. Each year, a team of approximately 40-70 students conceive, design, and manufacture a formula-style race car. Once complete, the car is brought to Lincoln, Nebraska, and Hockenheim, Germany, where it is judged by the world's best engineers and raced against competing cars from 70 schools around the world. The competition is more than simply a race, instead it includes everything from a formal business proposal to a grueling endurance test in which only a fifth of the cars survive to the finish.

At the University of Washington, we strive to create a professional business environment in which the Formula SAE students gain experience in design, documentation, machining , assembly, product testing, as well as accounting, budgeting and purchasing. The University of Washington's FSAE team is also one of the first teams to include students from majors other than Mechanical Engineering. The team is made up of students from Aerospace Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, and Physics, as well as Business and Journalism. Participating in this interdisciplinary project allows students to develop the necessary technical communication skills vital to future employers.

In order to build the car, the UW Formula Motorsports team must purchase raw materials and equipment. The project depends largely upon sponsorship from businesses and companies like you. In the past, monetary, product, and service contributions have accounted for over 75% of the team's total budget. Without these generous donations, students would be unable to produce such innovative and remarkable designs, and the unique experience that the UW Formula SAE program would cease to exist.

Depending on the level of contribution, your company's logo will be exhibited proudly on the body panels of the UW FSAE formula car, on the team trailer, on display boards wherever the car is shown, and on the UW Formula Motorsports website. Your logo can also be displayed on the uniforms of the pit crew and on UW FSAE shirts available for sale to the general public. Exposure includes the UW Engineering open houses, design fairs, and numerous PR events scheduled for increased publicity. Furthermore, your donations are tax deductible, as we are a 501(c)3 organization.
